"Good Mornin'" as my Dad (who rode the rails a bit himself in the early 1930's, including 1933) used to say in greeting. It was fun to find you while I was browsing for info on "Emperor of the North".

When I was a bunch of years younger, and a post-bacc student at the University of Oregon, I and 2 housemates saw an ad for a "cattle call" for extras for the film and we thought it might be a fun summer lark with some pay attached. The scene I was chosen for was the Salem, Oregon hobo camp when Simon Oakland, the policeman, chases Keith Carradine's character into the Salem "jungle". I even made it into a close-up reaction shot of 3 of us hobos.

The best part was Lee Marvin regaling us, on lunch break, with stories about a couple of his previous films, especially the extravagance of some of the props (fine cigars and Belgian Crystal Chandeliers) imported for saloon/bordello scenes) in 1968's musical "Paint Your Wagon", also shot in Oregon (eastern). That film, in a fun way, proved why Marvin and Clint Eastwood never became known as crooners! He knew a bit about the different gauges/width of RR rails, back in the (hey)day/golden era of trains, as well.

Keep the Reviews a comin'. I hope they bring you an abundance of fun, pleasure, prosperity, and popcorn!

I recently saw a piece on the continuing hobo culture on 'CBS Sunday Morning'. I'm much more inclined to want to see this movie after watching that and bumping into this review.
